Paris Hilton - Young Celebrity of Haughty Bearing

By Alex Pecklen

Every tabloid and every web site have been recently flooded with Paris Hilton, who was on a trial and found guilty in several cases, such as driving under the influence of alcohol and also driving with a suspended license.

Paris Hiltons behavior in the court was displaying her arrogance and once more proved she disrespected the law. She pretended she didnt see the notice telling her driving license was suspended and claimed she was completely innocent. Judge Sauer paid little attention on such claims and didnt buy any of her tricks. And in fact, he sentenced the rich heiress to jail in order to emphasize that no one is above the law, not matter how rich and famous one is.

Paris Hilton is the true daughter of her parents who never showed any respect or gratitude to people around them. They often would pop into a hotel and demand the high class service disregarding everyone serving them. They are also well known for demonstrating arrogance and disrespect to lower class and poor people. Dont you recognize anyone? Paris Hilton is just the same!

Paris Hiltons parents brought her up in order to make her sure she was the most important person in the whole world and thus she could do anything she likes and in any way she prefers. Paris Hiltons attitude to people and life simply reflects absolute indifference to other people her parents thought her. No one can predict whether Paris Hilton will ever change her way of living and bearing.

Will Paris Hilton finally realize she is not above the other human beings, but simply one of them being too lucky to be rich? We will find it out after she is out of jail. - 16035

Licorice

By Amy Paul

Fennel was a popular herb among the Chinese, Indians, Egyptians, Greeks and Romans in ancient times, when it was believed to have miraculous healing powers 'against all fevers'. It reached Europe in the early Middle Ages, where it was introduced by the Romans.

Fennel is native to the Mediterranean but it has become naturalized in many countries of the temperate zone. It is raised commercially in France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Romania, as well as in the former USSR, China and Japan and Argentina. It is also grown on a small scale in herb gardens. The leaves are used to flavour fish soups and sauces and in salads. In Italy it is preserved in vinegar and salt and eaten as a vegetable (Italian dill). The seeds are used to flavour bread (similar to anise), sprinkled on rolls, in pickling gherkins and vegetables and in vegetable dishes. Italians sprinkle ground fennel on barbecued meat.

Pontefract cakes and other sweets from licorice are made there to this day, but from imported, not home-grown roots. The liquid extract may also be used in making delicate sweet drinks and to disguise the unpleasant taste of some drugs. In Victorian times it was the custom to eat licorice every Friday as a purgative.

In the Middle Ages fennel had all sorts of uses. The fruits were used to flavour sweets, fish sauces and soups. It was recommended for the treatment of cataracts, worms in the cars, and to promote the flow of milk from the breast. The following recipe is for 'cold brewit': 'take mush made from almonds, dry it on a cloth and when dry put it in a vessel; to this add salt, sugar, the white powder of ginger and juice from fennel.

Cultivated forms differ in the colour of their seeds. In regions where soy bean is grown on a large scale the proteins arc extracted from the beans and made up into various kinds of synthetic meat products.

The seeds do not ripen at the same time; a single plant carries them at various stages of development. For this reason they arc harvested in succession by cutting out only the ripe sections of the umbels. These ;Ire then spread out and dried slowly on large sheets of canvas to retain the seeds, which separate readily from the stalks. The temperature must not exceed 35C (95F) - 16035

Beautiful Roses Needs Proper Care and Conditions

By Steve Karback

If you like roses, you can use them for both function and beauty to enhance your grounds. You can use roses as creepers, hedges, climbers or vines or just simply to add a splash of color to your flower beds.

The inventors of roses were tireless and enthusiastic and every single year a bunch of new species crop up. Recently the newest varieties to pop up are; the floribunda rose, Jiminy Cricket, and a softer, pinker hybrid tea rose the Queen Elizabeth and a brighter yellow hued peace rose. With the over 5,000 different roses available today, once you begin growing your own roses, you will no doubt find out which ones you prefer from season to season.

Just like it is with any plant you select, you need to make sure your plant is healthy. The stems need to be a healthy shade of green and not shriveled and brown. Just remember that because something is expensive does not mean it is the best choice, it may even be a newer variety that is popular and well spoken about and therefore becomes a favorite.

There are two kinds of roses; bush roses (like shrubs) and climbers (which need a support system). In the bush rose family, the most common kind is a hybrid tea rose, which accounts for over 60% of all roses bushes grown in the U.S. Other major bush kinds are polyanthas (which grow in large clusters), fioribundas (larger than polyanthas), and the perpetual hybrids (great growing with a good crop in June and which continue growing through the summer). The climbers are ramblers, which are long pliant chains that have smaller clusters of roses and are great for use in wall covering, fences and banks. Climbers are called pillar roses which are adept at growing on buildings and posts, and the climber hybrid tree.

When planting roses, a good quality garden loam is needed. The loam needs to have leaf mold, compost, peat moss and manure and the flower bed should be prepared as far in advance as possible to allow time for the soil to settle. Fall time is ideal for planting roses, however you can choose to plant your roses in the spring time too.

It is necessary that once you get your roses, to plant them immediately. If the roses have become dried out, you will need to soak them down in a bucket of water before planting. Trimming the roots at this time is another good idea to do now, paying attention to any that are loose, long and broken. You need to dig a hole large enough to allow the roots room to expand and the rose is placed correctly when the bud is just below the surface of the ground. Hybrid teas should be about 18 inches apart in either direction and branches need to be pruned back within 6-10 inches from the soil.

To properly grow any flowering plant such as roses, they need to be cultivated, sprayed and pruned and if the flower bed is well cultivated you do not have to be overly concerned with watering. If you encounter watering problems in the heat of the summer time, it then becomes necessary to water them to the point of soaking on a weekly basis.

To protect against bug infestation, it is necessary to use an insecticide spray approximately every 10 days. You can winterize your roses by molding a mound of sod around them after the first frost or you can use a mix of straw and evergreen. In colder areas of the country, it is necessary to take down the supports of vine roses and put canes on the ground, the peg and cover with mounds of dirt to protect. - 16035

Tips on Garden Design

By Jason Flinstone

A historical survey shows that the form of the garden was to a large extent dictated by its function. The function, in turn, was affected by many things, including climate and lifestyle. From the Renaissance onwards most gardens were large and designed mainly for show and for tranquil pursuits such as the gentle stroll; they were invariably tended by gardeners.

It is equally important that the style of the garden is in keeping with the inside if the house and garden are to be seen as a whole. Not only does the house lead out to the garden and thus form a unit in the physical sense but the garden can usually be seen from the windows of the house and should harmonize with the interior as much as possible.

In this context it is often easier to define style in a negative way: concrete slabs, for instance, lack the subtlety and texture needed for paving a cottage garden, and asbestos pots would he out of character in the garden of a traditional brick house.

A garden should work as an extension of the house both practically and visually. While the form which a garden takes evolves primarily from its function, the style must above all be in sympathy with its location. Very occasionally a contrast in style can work by shock tactics, but in the main this is not a good idea. The first problem is to recognize your style. For those who live in an old period house there is no difficulty, but for the vast majority who live in modern suburban houses it is more tricky. If your plot has any long-established features, such as a group of old trees, it may he a good idea to retain these and let them to a certain extent influence the style of your garden. The biggest problem arises with a badly neglected plot or where the site of the garden is little more than a barren heap of builder's rubble. As a starting point, give some thought to building materials, then to the interior style of the house itself.

The demands of a single family can vary enormously over a number of years. Where they are likely to be in the same home for sonic time it is important that the garden plan is flexible enough to reflect these changing needs. A young couple might use the garden mainly for sunbathing or entertaining and would want a simple layout which is easy to look after. The arrival of children would impose many new demands, from pram-standing space to soft play areas and tricycle runs. With a growing family a bigger area of the garden might be devoted to vegetables, with a large terrace space for outdoor activities and family meals.

As children leave home the garden area should become quieter and parents should have more time to spend in it. They may concentrate more on the plants themselves, possibly with special interests developing such as roses or a greenhouse. However, what can be looked after with ease at fifty becomes something of a chore at seventy. - 16035

Direct Marketing With Facebook - 4 Ways to Build a Network

By Jasmine Chan

Move over, MySpace! Facebook is the new one-seed for social networking these days. No doubt, you have even heard about Facebook being used for network marketing. But how does one go about tapping into the vast potential of Facebook? For those who want to know, please read on.

If you are savvy enough to attract people to interact with you on Facebook, your network will start to fill with people who have genuine interest in you and your business. The benefits of this include building a strong customer database and contact list. Remember, even if someone does not do business with you today, that does not mean they will not do business with you tomorrow. It is essential that you get them (and keep them) in your sales pipeline.

This is accomplished by keeping these points in mind:

1. Be patient. You will have to devote some time and energy into building your presence on Facebook. This is not an overnight, turn-key operation. While some of this work could be outsourced, but you will need to be careful that this does not conflict with my next point.

2. Be unique. You are unique, right? Well, your Facebook business should also be unique. This is actually the life-blood of Facebook: people coming to express their own unique ideas and opinions. Who would want to connect with some dime-a-dozen business on Facebook? All they have to do is pick up a newspaper to see that. If you want people to be interested in your business and join your Facebook network, you will need to appeal to people's unique identities.

3. Create discussion. Alright, so it is important to appeal to people's sense of individual identity, but how do you do that? Getting a discussion going is perfect for this. It shows lots of personality, inspires people, and, most importantly, gets you attention. For example, if you were selling lingerie, you could start a discussion on whether or not push-up bras and falsies were great for boosting confidence or merely "false advertising." You better believe that a discussion like this is going to get a lot of people joining in to express some strong, sometimes humorous, opinions. Of course, it also has the benefit of getting people into your group and interested in your market.

4. Read the terms of service agreement. Although it is a free online service open to everyone, that does not give you license to do anything you want. The community is monitored by the Facebook staff to make sure people are following the terms of the service agreement. Violating these terms of service is a good way to get your account banned or suspended. Be sure to read the terms of the service agreement carefully before starting. - 16035

Vanilla

By John Piano

Ginger, with its tall leafy stems up to 1.2 m (4 ft) high, somewhat resembles a reed. The flower stems are about 25 cm (10 in) tall.

In Europe it was the Greeks who first cultivated the grape and introduced it in the 7th century B.C. to Italy and the territory that is now France. Its cultivation in America dates from the 16th century A.D.

This perennial plant, native to tropical Asia, was known in ancient China and India and is referred to in Sanskrit as `sringavere'. Ginger was shipped from its original home to southern Europe by Arabian merchants before the Christian era. It occurs frequently on the pages of the 3rd-century Roman cookbook 'De re coquinaria' written by Apicius Caelius.

First of all they are scalded briefly with hot water and then submitted to the lengthy process of wilting and drying, during which they turn a dark colour and acquire their characteristic aroma. Good quality vanilla is supple and small crystals of fragrant vanillin are visible on the surface. Vanilla must be stored in an air-tight wrapper or container to preserve its aroma.

In England ginger has been a traditional spice since the 9th century, but Europeans were not acquainted with the plant itself until the late 13th century when it was described at almost the same time by both Marco Polo and Pagolotti. In the 16th century Francisco de Mendoza of Spain began cultivating ginger in Jamaica. Chief producers nowadays are Jamaica, southeast India, tropical west Africa and China.

Ginger is propagated by vegetative means, by cutting the rootstock into pieces and planting these out in light and moisture-retaining soil. It is harvested (ploughed up) 6 to 12 months later - 16035

Pepper Cubeb

By Matthew Cook

This is a climbing perennial plant native to the islands of Java, Sumatra and Borneo. It is grown on trees which shade plantations of other plants from the tropical sun. Of all the peppers used in cookery this is the most aromatic, which accounts, perhaps, for its lack of popularity in Europe.

The first to know and use long pepper, apart from the natives, were the Persians, followed by the Greeks, who called it `peperl', or rather `peperi makron', meaning large pepper, in order to distinguish it from black pepper. The Romans, who were introduced to it by the ancient Greeks, changed the name paperi to piper and called it Piper longum.

According to old English recipes the leaves may be pickled like capers. They may be used as a delicate flavouring in creamed vegetable soups and in piquant mayonnaises served with meat and fish. When using purslane in cooked foods the finely chopped leaves should be added at the end of cooking to retain their delicate flavour and precious vitamins.

Besides being far more pungent, pepper cubeb is also morphologically different from black pepper and long pepper. Though the fruits (berries) resemble those of black pepper they appear to have long stalks (these stalks arc actually elongated ovaries). They are harvested before they ripen so that the surface becomes wrinkled during the drying process.

Both species of long pepper are very hot, the same as black pepper, and also very aromatic. Their pungency is produced by the alkaloid piperine and the resin they contain, their aroma by a volatile oil, which is why pepper that has been stored for a long period or in an unsuitable container is not aromatic but only hot to the tongue.

For this reason it is recommended to buy peppers whole, not ground, and to grind them just before use. - 16035

Garden compost

By Scott Edward

If you have taken over a new site and form of drainage is definitely needed, will at least provide an excellent opportunity to get rid of any builder's which you have inherited. Broken lumps of concrete should be used the bottom of drainage pits or trenches. The drainage systems is also useful to take the iorterflow and occasional outlet from a small garden pond.

Many waste materials can go on to the compost heap, from kitchen waste such as lettuce leaves and vegetable peelings to grass cuttings, dead leaves and straw- but diseased plant roots, perennial weeds or woody stems should always be burnt. The successful decomposition of this waste material depends on air, water and the action of bacteria. The bacteria depend on nitrogen for food and the rate of decay can be accelerated by sprinkling the heap with a nitrogenous fertilizer such as sulphate of ammonia or by spreading a layer of farmyard manure over it.

The water table generally rises and fa following wet and dry periods. If it star, at about 900 mm (3 ft) below ground le-. it can he an asset, since water will - available to the deeper plant roots. Ho ever extreme fluctuations in the water tai are a great danger: if it rises in winter: roots of plants are killed through saturatic and if it falls in the summer the pla suffer from drought. On low-lying grout if there is perpetual standing water (usua in winter), this might mean that the war table has risen above ground level and drainage system will relieve it.

A rubble drain is a short-term drainage run, which may be all that is required on a new site to relieve temporary lying water. Dig a trench 300 mm to 450 mm deep, depending on the depth of cultivated soil (since water collects on the comparatively solid pan of undisturbed ground that lies immediately beneath). Fill the hole at least half full with coarse rubble then with a layer of ash or gravel and finally topsoil.

While the application of artificial fertilizers helps to stimulate plant growth it does nothing to improve the physical qualities of the soil. In fact over-application of these materials can cause soil deterioration by destroying bacteria. Soil texture can be improved by the addition of sterilized peat (moist, decomposing plant matter) but this has no mineral or food content at all. The fertility of a soil is an extremely complex balance between its physiology, its humus content and its mineral content (shown by its pH value). Once a gardener understands how each factor in the balance works, he has control over his plot, over what will grow and where. A well drained soil is essential not for successful plant growth but also paths and walls are to he built. It is therefore important to consider the draink your whole plot, not simply with regal the growing areas.

If you have space, a double compost bin allows one heap to decompose thoroughly while another is being started. - 16035

Morrish Garden in Spain

By Christina Courtney

The Italian Renaissance saw a dramatic development in the whole concept of gardens. In the early fifteenth century, as trade started to flourish again, merchants in the hot city of Florence began to build villas or farms on the surrounding vineyard hills where it was cooler. The earliest Renaissance gardens were at first in the formal, enclosed tradition but gradually a view was allowed into the garden through a hole in the wall. As a natural view became more important the enclosures were swept away and the hillside gardens were allowed to stride down their sites through olive groves and vineyards.

During the sixteenth century the initiative passed to Rome, where the architect Bramante designed a papal garden within the Vatican. This was the forerunner of the High Renaissance style, with a magnificent arrangement of steps and terraces, which became a prototype for everything which followed. From then on gardens became even more ostentatious in design, with terraces at different levels retained by walls and interconnected by grand staircases. Water again became a major feature, as it was in Islamic gardens. It was pressurized and used spectacularly, progressing down an incline or displayed in an elaborate fountain. While these Renaissance gardens were still places for cool retreat, with shade and water of great importance, they were also showplaces where the site and its vegetation were deliberately manipulated. The Italians were really the first to make decorative use of plants, with hedges, for example, used to link the house and garden structurally. The Renaissance movement originating in Italy spread northwards, together with increased knowledge about plants and their cultivation. In France the small formal gardens within the walls of mowed chateaux moved outside, becoming much grander in scope.

The Greeks discovered the delights of Persian culture, including their paradise gardens, when they were waging war in Asia during the third century BC. During the first century BC we also hear of influential Greeks having vegetables planted in their gardens, to furnish their tables. Homer wrote of Alcinous' large walled garden which grew vegetables, including beans, with an orchard of apple, pear and fig trees.

As times became more peaceful throughout Europe the defence walls were lowered, the garden area grew larger and a simple formal design developed.

The central courtyard within a colonnaded peristyle (known as an atrium) became a major feature of the house and was, in effect, the main living area; it still survives today in the cathedral court and cloister. The garden layouts were much on the Greek pattern, architectural and formal and made up of flower beds and paths, pergolas and statuary with fountains and pools for irrigation. Flowers such as the violet, poppy, iris, lily and pansy were popular and, in particular, the rose. Climbing plants were trained up the supporting columns of covered walks and pergolas.

The most intricate designs were simply filled with gravel or coloured earth while more open beds contained flowering plants such as lilies, gilleyflowers, lavender, primroses, marigolds and roses. There were also orchards and vegetable gardens and among the fruit and vegetables mentioned were cherries, apples, pears, wild strawberries, vines, onions, peas, garlic, leeks, lettuces, turnips, radish and spinach. - 16035

Alpenrose

By Mark Carlson

Alpenrose is a densely branched, evergreen shrub growing to a height of 0.4-1 m. The glowing flowers appear in June and July. The capsules ripen and split at the end of September.

It is a native of western, central and southern Europe, its range extending eastward to Asia Minor and Caucasia in continental Europe. It is found mainly in beech woods, where it grows on stony, calcareous soils or ones rich in humus; in Britain it will grow almost anywhere. Ideal for its growth are the mild winters of the coastal climate and moist air. It tolerates strong shade but bears flowers and fruits only if supplied with adequate light. It is used in parks to form a green carpet in shaded spots where turf will not thrive, and to cover walls and rocks. Propagation is by means of cuttings and seeds.

When planted in gardens both these rhododendrons should be provided with a moist soil rich in humus. The large-flowered and taller species, 2-4 m high, developed by the crossing of American and Chinese rhododendrons, are generally cultivated in parks and gardens.

The fruits ripen in September; they are edible but turn sweet only after the first frost. Inside the pulp is a hard, elongate seed which, when sown, does not germinate until the second year.

This is a warmth-loving species growing mostly in southern Europe and Asia Minor. In central Europe it exists as a relic of the warm period following the Ice Age, growing in warm, mainly limestone situations. It occurs on sunny and rocky banks or in oak stands. It thrives quite well in dry locations but requires lighter soil rich in humus.

It is planted in parks for its early flowers and attractive red fruits. Propagation is by means of seeds, summer cuttings and root suckers. The wood is very hard, with reddish-brown heartwood. - 16035

Color and Scent of Orchids

By Kate Simunek

If you are growing your orchids indoors you may want to be more selective about the range of colours from your orchid blooms. With such a vast choice of hues and shades, it is possible to arrange your colour schemes to suit any room or personal choice. The following charts will give you some at-a-glance ideas for this.

Orchids that benefit most are lightloving, cool-growing types such as cymbidiums, odontoglossums, coelogynes, encvclias and dendrobiums, all of which have fairly robust foliage that may become a little spotted or marked throughout the course of several months but will not come to any harm. Those orchids with softer, wideleafed foliage, such as lycastes, anguloas and the deciduous calanthes, would very soon become notably spoiled by blemishes as a result of the effects of the weather.

Place pebbles or expanded clay pellets in the base to create your own individual tank effect. You now have a miniature orchid garden to house those tiny plants that would otherwise dry out too rapidly. Place this in a bright spot, but not too close to a window where it may overheat. It is a good idea to place a minimum/maximum thermometer inside the aquarium to assess the temperature range you have created.

During the summer, the aquarium can be left open at the top; close it down only when warmth needs to be conserved. By setting up a horticultural fluorescent light tube above the plants, it is possible to place the aquarium in an unlit corner that would otherwise be unsuitable for growing orchids. This idea can be adapted to a smaller or larger degree.

If you do not stand the plant on a damp base, you will need to remove it for watering and replace it after the pot has drained. The flowers of some orchids can also be highly scented, which adds immeasurably to their overall appeal.

Those orchids termed warm-growing include the shade-loving phalaenopsis and a number of the paphiopedilums. Generally, none of these is suitable for outdoor growing, except in the tropics. The temperatures at night are too cold for much of the summer, and the lush foliage of phalaenopsis will suffer from the elements, causing premature leafloss and the death of the plant in extreme cases. The paphiopedilums are altogether too soft-leafed to cope with outdoor conditions, and it becomes impossible to keep the centre of their growths from filling with water when it rains. In a short time this can result in rot to the centre of the growth.

It blooms during the autumn and is highly fragrant at night. Well-chosen colour combinations can create beautiful effects, as is shown by this display of pale pink Phalaenopsis schilleriana and the deep pink P. Mad Milva. Orchids can be displayed in most rooms in the house.

The pale lemon Phalaenopsis Barbara Moler x Spitzberg looks perfect in a blue bathroom. A Phalaenopsis Mad Milva will do well as the centrepiece of an orchid display, provided it is kept out of direct sunlight. The flowers are delightful with cerise pink petals and sepals, with a darker pink lip. - 16035

Why Choose an Iron Bed Frame?

By Iron Bed Frames

I love the look of metal furniture, so when I found myself in the market for a new bedroom set, iron bed frames were the perfect place to start. I began my hunt online, where I found dozens of websites dedicated to this specific type of furniture. I found all kinds of bedroom sets that would match my taste to a "T"; now all I had to do was select the one I liked best.

This turned out to be more challenging than I first thought, as I began looking at page after page of beautiful iron bed frames that I could imagine myself sleeping in. Some were reproductions, while others were the original pieces from a century ago, completely refinished to withstand the lifestyles of today. I also found companies that made iron bed frames by hand, using similar techniques to those from many years ago.

I liked the idea of purchasing an authentic iron bed frame from the late 1800s or early 1900s that some of my forefathers might have slumbered in. The problem was that the biggest pieces would only accommodate a full-size mattress " not so helpful for my queen-sized taste! The good news is that many of the online retailers can convert those sizes into queen and king without losing the original charm of the piece.

Some companies keep iron bed frames in their inventory unfinished, so you can order a piece to your own individual specifications. I liked this approach a lot, because it meant that I could buy the design I liked the best, and then get the finish that would coordinate the prettiest into my bedroom. Some of the designs of these authentic antiques were truly one of a kind, and I found many to fall in love with.

Then I began surfing the sites for reproduction pieces and I found some great choices in iron bed frames here as well. I scanned styles that ran from ultra sleek and contemporary to those that looked like they just came out of a 19th-century home. Some even came with a canopy for the ultimate in romance! There were different sizes and finishes to delight every taste and budget.

Speaking of budget, I am happy to report that the iron bed frames I found were quite reasonably priced, allowing me to purchase a few matching pieces for the rest of the bedroom as well. I chose a style that was accented in a rich, warm wood tone, to add coziness to the ambiance of my room. I love my new iron bed frame, and would strongly encourage anyone to give one of these pieces a try. Check out the Internet for the latest and greatest, and sleep well tonight! - 16035

Fruits and Seeds

By James Masonry

Flowers may be classified according to whether they possess both or only one (or none) of the sexual organs.

The fruits of deciduous plants are either true fruits, i.e. merely the ripened ovary, or are accessory fruits, developed from the ovary plus other parts of the flower (stem, petals). Included in the latter group are the pome, the hip, raspberry Fruits are furthermore divided, according to whether they have a dry or soft pericarp, into dry fruits (samara, nut, legume, Miele, capsule) and fleshy fruits (berries, drupes). The samara is a dry, usually one-seeded fruit, shed in its entirety, with thin, membranous to leathery pericarp; often it is winged.

Barren flowers lack functional sexual organs altogether. Examples are the snowball tree and some kinds of hydrangea.

Monoecious shrubs are ones with both staminate and pistillate flowers on the same individual, e.g. hazel, green alder, etc., whereas dioecious shrubs have staminate and pistillate flowers on different individuals, e.g. mistletoe, sea buckthorn, willow, etc.

For their services - visiting different flowers and transferring pollen from one to another - they are rewarded with the nectar that we, too, enjoy in the form of honey, made in the nests or hives of bees. Many shrubs are important honey-yielding plants and are often cultivated by bee-keepers, e.g. the cornelian cherry, snowberry, raspberry, etc.

The commonest types are the spike or catkin, with sessile flowers attached directly to the stalk, e.g. those of the willow, alder and hazel; the raceme, with an elongated axis bearing flowers on short stems blossoming in succession toward the apex, e.g. the barberry, currant and golden rain; the panicle, with a main central stem and branched laterals bearing flowers, e.g. the traveller's joy, spiraca, smoke tree and staghorn sumach; the umbel, in which the axis is very much contracted so that the stalked florets form aflat or domed cluster, e.g. the cornelian cherry and English holly; the cyme, with stems bearing flowers on individual stalks of unequal length so that all are at the same height, e.g. the hawthorn and spiraca; and the dichasium, with two branches of flowers set below the terminal flower and extending beyond it, e.g. the spindle tree. - 16035

How to Grow Herbs

By Jesse Charlotte

The quality of the soil can usually be improved, but light and heat depend on the geographical location. However, when planning the herb garden always choose a warm, sunny and sheltered place, so the plants are provided with conditions at least somewhat like those of their native habitat. They will reward you by growing well and developing flavour and aroma.

If you have an excessive secretion of gastric juices you should not use herbs that stimulate their flow. Similarly it is nolt advised to drink strong coffee or tea before going to bed for they stimulate the activity of the cerebral cortex, the heart, the vascular system and respiration. Wise and moderate use of herbs, however, acts, as a medicine rather than a poison. Why just take a look into the past: at one time no difference was made between culinary and medicinal herbs and predecessor of our present-day herb garden is the medieval chortus sanitatis', or garden of health.

The plants can be sown in trays in early spring, and kept in a frame or greenhouse to protect the tender seedlings from night frosts. These are then planted out in their permanent positions when all danger of frost is over. Such plants grow more rapidly and are ready for use at least a month earlier.

On the contrary, it is recommended to prepare cheese spreads, herb butter, salad dressings, cold sauces and the like at least an hour before serving so that the ingredients will blend thoroughly and the flavour will be at its peak.

As the growing season draws to a close with the onset of autumn it must be kept in mind that practically all perennial herbs are natives of warm regions where frost is unknown (thyme, hyssop, sage, oregano, etc.). For this reason they should be cut back to about 10 cm (4 in) above the ground and in areas where frosts regularly occur, covered with a protective layer of dry leaves, straw or evergreen twigs for the winter. This should be carefully removed in spring when growth starts so that the plants are not attacked by fungus diseases which would flourish in the warm moist environment.

The ideal soil is well drained but at the same time retains the necessary nutrients, well aerated and will neither pack down in wet weather nor form a crust when conditions are dry. The soil must also be deep enough to accommodate deep-rooting plants. - 16035

Cumin

By Paul Heather

Cumin resembles caraway, with which it is closely related, in aroma and flavour, but it is much more pungent and quite bitter. In olden times it was more highly prized than caraway, as testified to by the fact that, according to the Bible, the Pharisees paid their tithes with it and even in medieval England vassals used it to pay the feudal lords in lieu of their services. It was also well known to the ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians, who used it in place of pepper.

Its fruits were put in graves together with other gifts for the dead. Theophrastus tells us that cumin was grown for culinary use and advises that sowing of the seeds be accompanied by cursing to ward off evil spirits, which would otherwise damage the germinating plants. On old Egyptian papyrus rolls it goes by the name of `tapnen'.

Turmeric is not a common seasoning in Europe, apart from England; whereas in the United States it is widely used in scrambled eggs, cream sauces, mayonnaises, various spreads and fish salads.

It is particularly good on grilled chicken, not only masking the odour of the poultry farm, which is unpleasant to many people, but also giving it a lovely golden colour. It is also used with all fried meats. Indian cookery uses turmeric to colour rice and sweet dishes. Once you become accustomed to this condiment you will be partial to it for ever.

Turmeric is a perennial plant resembling reeds and growing to a height of I in (3 ft). It is cultivated in China, India, the West Indies and Java. It is propagated by means of thin pieces of the rhizome called 'fingers' and can be harvested within ten months of planting.

Commercial cardamom is of two kinds: one from Malabar with small fruits and seeds, the other from Mysore with fruits and seeds that are slightly larger. - 16035

Elderberry

By James Pollock

Clary, a close relative of common sage, is native to southern Europe. The specific name is derived from the Latin word 'clams', meaning clear, bright.

The Romans made a savory sauce rather like we now make mint sauce. Savory is native to the Mediterranean region; in the 9th century A.D. it was introduced to central Europe, where it rapidly became established. It was widely used for seasoning in the days when costly spices imported from the tropics were rare.

Dried blooms should be stored in air-tight containers. During the growth period it is best to use the fresh flowers. These have a refreshing fragrance and for this reason were at one time used in Europe to improve the flavour of Moselle wines that were not up to par.

The leaves are very aromatic and may be used both fresh and dried. They are added, together with the flowers of elderberry, to wine to give it a nutmeg-like flavour, hence the German name Muskateller-Salbei. They are also used to flavour jams and jellies. Nowadays clary is grown in Europe mainly for the extraction of the essential oil which has a lavender-like fragrance and is used in perfumery. In cookery it is used for the same purposes as common sage, but is rarely found on the kitchen shelf.

White mustard has long been cultivated. Native to the Mediterranean region, probably north Africa, its many present cultivated varieties differ only slightly from the original wild forms. It was cultivated by the ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians. From the writings of Theophrastus we learn that the Greeks called it `napy' or also `sinapi', which gave rise to the Latin name of the genus and later also to the German name Sent Already in those days it was made into a paste for use as a condiment according to recipes quite different from those of the present day. The Romans introduced the plant and their recipes for prepared mustard to central and western Europe. In the Middle Ages wine vinegar, called `mustum' in Latin, began to be used in making the paste and hence the North German name Mostrich, the French moutarde and the English mustard.

It is very suitable for growing in the herb garden. Propagation is by means of seeds sown outdoors where the plants are to grow in early spring. The non-woody flowering top parts of the plant are gathered. These are tied in bunches and dried in a well-ventilated spot at a temperature not exceeding 35C (95F). They should then be stored in air-tight containers - 16035

Green Alder

By Robert Mills

Virgin's bower is a climbing shrub growing to a height of only 3-4 m. The leaf stalks are twining and support the plant on fences and the stems of other woody plants. The bluish to reddish purple flowers appear in the axils of the leaves on stalks about 10 cm long from June to September. The sepals are petal-like. The seed-like achenes lack the feathery plumes characteristic of other clematis and ripen from August onwards.

A native of southern Europe and Asia Minor, this shrub grows on rocky hillsides and sun- warmed slopes. In central and western Europe it is often planted in parks and gardens. It is a light- loving plant but does not tolerate full sun and should therefore not be planted on house walls with a southern exposure. It is important to water the plant during dry spells. In the mid-19th century it was crossed with Asiatic C. lanuginosa and American species by the English gardener George Jackman, who bred a number of hybrids with large ornamental flowers.

Mistletoe is an evergreen shrub with forked branches that is parasitic on trees. The stem is covered with yellow-green bark. The shrub grows to a height of about 50 cm and is almost circular in shape. It establishes itself on the branches of trees, which it penetrates with its roots, thereby obtaining the water and mineral substances it needs for growth.

Alongside streams and gullies it occasionally descends to lower levels, where it covers uncultivated areas. It suckers freely when cut and also puts out root suckers, by which it is easily propagated.

The hazel is a shrub with straight shoots 3-6 m high, the bark smooth and brownish. The alternate buds are round ovate and covered with several scales. The, male catkins are visible already in autumn, growing in length and maturing in March when their yellow pollen falls on the female, bud-shaped flowers with several slender carmine-red stigmas. By autumn the female flowers develop into a woody oval nut 1-1.5 cm long, enclosed in a green leafy cup. The kernel is oily and very tasty. Propagate by nuts sown in autumn. if stored dry and sown in spring germi- nation is delayed until the second spring.

It grows in western, central and southern Europe and is mostly parasitic on fir and pine trees, and of the deciduous species on poplars, birches, maples, limes and fruit trees. Parasitic on oaks is the closely related yellow-berried mistletoe (Loranthus europaeus), which is deciduous; this species does not occur in Britain, where mistletoe is occasionally found on oaks. - 16035

Cocoa

By James Rowan

Cocoa, or more correctly cacao, is a small evergreen tree native to tropical America, probably originally growing in the Orinoco River basin. Cocoa is used to make chocolates. Cocoa can be used as spice in cooking.

As a flavouring, however, rowan- berries continue to be neglected. Perhaps because in this overly-civilized world where we can purchase everything packaged and ready-made we have forgotten to look about us and make the most of nature's bounty, of the fruits which are not found on the market but are plentiful in the wild.

Rowanberries are subtly piquant fruits reminiscent of cranberries with their slightly bitter, aromatic flavour and bright colouring. Forms with sweet fruits are ideal not only for making compotes, jams and wines, but above all for flavouring roast beef, roast game and cream sauces, to which, besides taste and aroma, they also give a lovely colour.

It was also believed to banish 'bad humours' caused by a lengthy diet of salt fish. The highly aromatic, rather unpleasant-tasting foliage was used to disguise the strong taste of game and mutton and make it more palatable.

Nowadays tansy is a flavouring that is fast disappearing from cookery, and if used, then generally as an interesting and unusual ingredient. Gourmets recommend using the leaves in omelettes, stuffings, fish dishes and salads, but always sparingly, for larger amounts are toxic. Only young, freshly-picked leaves are used.

Tansy may still occasionally be encountered in gardens, where it is generally grown for decoration. The ornamental form T. vulgare crispum is often cultivated. The yellow, button-like flower-heads arc composed only of tubular flowers; female flowers round the perimeter and bisexual flowers in the centre. - 16035

Tomato Herb

By Jonathan Richardson

The tomato as the basic ingredient of various kinds of ketchup it deserves to be mentioned. It is a native of northwestern South America (Peru and Ecuador), where the Incas raised it probably in ancient times, as did the Aztecs in Mexico. In the 16th century the tomato was taken from Mexico to Spain, where its Aztec name `tumantl' was changed to tomato, the name by which it is known in many other languages.

It was also popular in the Middle Ages, as we learn from the records of Hildegarde, abbess at the Rupertsberg abbey in the 12th century, mainly as a medicine for treating a wide variety of diseases. After that it slowly fell into oblivion, surviving only in country gardens, whence it is currently making a rapid comeback.

Mattioli was partly right, for the green parts of the plant are slightly poisonous and furthermore he was perhaps guided by a well- founded fear; for the tomato belongs to the nightshade family which includes many highly poisonous species which it resembles.

The rhizomes and roots are used to make commercial soup flavourings. The hollow stem may be cut crosswise into ring-like pieces and candied in the same way as the stem of angelica. All parts of lovage may be used fresh as well as dried, whole, crushed or ground.

Lovage is a large perennial herb up to 2 m (6 ft) high with a fleshy rhizome and long, branching roots. It grows best in moist deep soil. It may be propagated by seeds, but for the herb garden a single offset detached from the parent plant will suffice.

Parts should be dried at a temperature no greater than 35C (95F) for the plant contains essential oils, and stored in air-tight containers. - 16035

Burnet Saxifrage

By Charlotte Zander

The coastal region in south-west India known as the Malabar Coast was originally called Malichabar. The name is derived from the Sanskrit word `malicha', meaning pepper and the Arabian word 'bar', meaning land, hence pepper land. This relatively narrow coastal belt is the original home of the pepper plant, a climbing shrub growing to a height of 6 m (20 ft).

Pepper is a typical plant of the tropics that thrives only in a very humid and warm climate. Originally a forest plant grown by the natives to climb among trees at the edge of the forest, it is now widely cultivated throughout the tropics.

It is raised on plantations from offshoots that climb up poles up to 4 m (13 ft) high. Newly planted plants do not begin to bear fruit until the third year and produce their maximum yields (up to 3.5 kg [8 lb] of berries on a single plant) at the age of 7 to 9 years.

They are used only fresh to flavour salads, vegetable soups and sauces. They may also be used as a garnish for cold-dishes. They are particularly good as an ingredient of fine herb mixtures, for flavouring mayonnaises, boiled vegetables and fish. They may be used together with chervil, tarragon, parsley, chives and the like.

The unripe berries are dried in the sun, which can then be easily removed. The during which process they become black and cleaned, husked, ripe seeds yield the white wrinkled, and then graded according to pepper of commerce, which is more size; this is the black pepper of commerce which is aromatic but not as pungent. Unripe green.

Saxifrage can be plant in any free space in your garden. You can grow saxifrage in your kitchen garden and use it as a spice in your cooking. All it needs is a sunny location and not too much moisture. It may be propagated by means of seeds (achenes), or by the division of older clumps. - 16035

Colours as Garden Features

By Reuben Garden

No matter how much careful planning and planting have gone into your garden, it can all be to no avail if the ultimate sizes of the plants have not been considered, and this means the width or spread of the plants, not just their height.

The overall shape and form of every plant must be taken into account. for they will largely determine the final effect of the planting, particularly the way it appears in winter. Height and spread can be used to advantage when you want to provide sentinel effects in borders or to highlight a gateway or path.

Flowers not only offer colour but also scent, and when the two coincide, the effect of each can be heightened. The appreciation of a particular fragrance is always a personal matter, and what gives pleasure to one may not be detected by another. it is worth remembering, too, that some plants, especially roses and lilies, are expected to be fragrant. In fact, this is not always the case, and if scent is important to you, check that the variety you are proposing to plant is, in fact, scented.

In addition to the pleasures that colour and scent bring us, we should not forget that we can include in our gardens phints that will attract butterflies and other beneficial insects. In autumn moths are attracted by blue flowers, and Ceanothus (Californian lilac) and Caryopteris (blue spiraea) are often covered by moths in their endless search for nectar.

Silver and grey plants, such as santolina (cotton lavender) and artemisias. arc the ideal foil for most other colours, and they can be introduced to create buffer zones between strong colours, such as reds and blues, and to provide somewhere for the eye to rest.

Seasons change, and so do the sources of colour. In spring, summer and autumn there are so many that we tend to take them for granted. In autumn we look for the colour of the leaves and also of ripening fruits and berries, such as those of cotoneasters and pyracanthas (firethorn). The importance of evergreens, such as elaeagnus and photinias, in providing colour in winter is often overlooked, and fasminum (winter jasmine) offers yellow winter flowers. - 16035

Putting it All Together in Your Garden

By Marley Einstein

The factors that most influence the ways in which a plant develops in a garden are the plant's hardiness, and the site and the aspect of the garden - that is, the amount of shade and the possibility of physical damage by wind if no support is provided.

A plant's hardiness is possibly the most important of the three, and it is judged not just by the plant's ability to withstand winter cold but also the degree to which it might be damaged by Spring frosts.

If you are planning an island bed - that is, one surrounded by lawn - make sure that the largest plants are in the middle, with the smallest ones all around the edges.

All these factors affect the amount of time a plant is exposed to levels of cold that can cause damage to the stem, foliage or, less often, the roots. In the directory each entry includes a minimum temperature that can be tolerated by any plant. If a plant is particularly prone to damage by spring frosts - as are hydrangeas and pieris.

Next, place a sheet of tracing paper over the plan. Use The Plant Selector to find the names of the plants you want to include in your scheme, and write them on the tracing paper in the appropriate place. The advantage of using tracing paper is that if everything goes wrong and you do not like the end result, you can simply tear it up and start again without having to go to the trouble of redrawing the plan and circles.

If you need to prepare a larger area and cannot cope with the double digging by hand, you might want to hire a mechanical mini-digger. The principle is the same, however: remove the topsoil from a trench across the area to be dug and store it close to the far end of the area being prepared but not actually on it. The trench needs - 16035

Five Ways to Double your Website Traffic in 60 Days

By Daniel Z. Kane

Without traffic, your website will fail: it's not open to argument. The design can be terrific, your product may be wonderful, and your prices may be low, but none of that matters if nobody visits your site.

That is why website owners spend a large percentage of their time, and often lots of money, on online, print, and electronic advertising.

Here is how you can generate plenty of traffic on a budget.

1. Article distribution is my favorite marketing activity because it has paid such great dividends for the websites with which I am associated. At last count, my article writing has netted those sites more than 30,000 links. The process is pretty simple. Just write articles that will be interesting and/or helpful, and use one of the many available software tools to submit them to article distribution sites. Include an author's box, like the one at the end of this article, with links to your website(s). As Webmasters looking for content find and use your articles on their sites, you will pick up links; often lots of them.

2. Send out emails offering to swap links with other website owners. Target those whose visitors might be interested in your site and those of high quality.

3. One way linking. If your content is good enough or if you have something to offer other webmasters (a widget, an ebook, etc.), try for one way links. The search engines value them far more highly than reciprocal links.

4. Set up a blog. Put a link to your website on it. Try to come up with an interesting post at least once a month. Weekly is better.

5. Just as website owners need content, so do bloggers. Offer to write guest blogs (followed by an author's box with a description of and link to your site).

6. One of the least utilized traffic generation tools is the press release. Press releases can be picked up by hundreds of websites, giving you hundreds of (almost) instant links. There are several services which will distribute your website (some at no cost) and at least 3-4 pieces of software you can use to get your releases out.

I realize that not everyone can write. If you are "writing challenged", don't despair. You might have to search around awhile, but there are folks who write blog posts and/or articles for less than $10. Press release are generally more, but the cost is not prohibitive. Remember, your potential return for each project can be hundreds of links. And, you know what that means. - 16035

Is Your Marriage Crumbling? The Us Factor Review

By Matt Hellstrom

Describing the Us Factor

The Us Factor is a new product recently released by the same people who created the mega-popular parenting program called The Total Transformation, and from first glance it appears to be the same type of top-notch product that The Total Transformation is. It's a product designed to show you how simple little changes can make big improvements in your marriage.

Who's behind The Us Factor?

True to form, they have brought on board a counselor with expertise and success. Dr. Joseph Melnick, a licensed pyschologist, family and couples counselor and organizational consultant is the developer and facilitator of the program. His experience in issues of intimacy, ethics, and organizational theories give him the credentials necessary to create an effective marriage program.

Dr. Melnick has worked with couples in his private practice for over twenty years. He holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Cincinnati. Currently, he is Co-Chair of the Cape Cod Training Program and a board member of the Gestalt International Study Center. He is Editor-in-Chief of Gestalt Review, a publication that concentrates on the Gestalt approach to clinical, family, group and organizational topics.

The Dollar Investment

The Us Factor is relatively inexpensive, especially if you compare the price to couples counseling (not to say that counseling isnt an excellent route to go - we've been to counseling on and off over the years, and we sincerely believe that without it, we wouldn't still be together. Dr. Melnick also makes it a point to say in the very first DVD that counseling is extremely beneficial). However, many people don't want to go to counseling for a variety of reasons, such as the following:

* They dont want to expose their lives and/or problems to a stranger.

* Don't know how they can pay for it.

* Not enough time to go.

Because of these reasons, the Us Factor is very appealing, since you can do this privately, on your own time, in your home. Plus, you only pay a small up-front fee for shipping and handling. You have a 30 day free test drive period and if you decide to keep it, they have 3 month payment plan.

The Us Factor Details

The Us Factor includes the following:

* 12 DVD Lessons

* A workbook that expands the lessons on the DVD.

* Support provided by an 800 phone line.

* Additional free DVD that addresses not normally discussed but much needed marriage issues

The package container is attractive, contemporary and works well for keeping the DVD's and workbook.

Tell me what I get

The first day's DVD is an overview and an intro to the Us Factor. I got hooked right from the start and even found some tips in this DVD that I could use in my marriage and that made me want to see more. It also reiterated a lot of what I have learned over the years in marriage counseling. Dr. Melnick has the couples face each other in the session and I like how that builds the intimacy and trust as they talk to each other and not "through" him. I think it is a great start in talking to each other and not at each other.

His philosophy comes out right at first - that small changes can make a big difference in your marriage, and that marriage is an ongoing event where you have to practice skills to succeed. The goal of the Us Factor is to teach us those skills. He gives an example of a teenager driving a car - you're not just going to give them the keys and say "Go at it!" You're going to teach them the skills they need first, then send them out into the world. Marriage is the same way. All too often, we get into marriage because of love, then when the love fades, we don't have the skills to keep it going. These skills are what were going to learn from Dr. Melnick.

Dr. Melnick says that love is like driving the car from Maine to California. Fun, don't notice any problems and you are there! However, the return trip is not so smooth, potholes, deer in the road, in-laws. And now is when those skills are sorely needed.

So far, everything I have seen in the Us Factor leads me to suggest this marriage counseling program as a good one. It coincides with some of the things I have learned in counseling, doesn't contradict anything, and actually adds to it in other areas. - 16035

Dog Rose

By Jimmy Huett

The ancient Chinese dictionary Er-ya tells us that radishes were already being grown in China in the middle of the second millennium B.C.

In Lebanon sumach herb may be seen in front of almost every house, the fruits being dried and ground into a purplish-red powder, or soaked in water and the juice then pressed out. They have a sour and pleasantly astringent taste.

The fruits of sumach herb were used by the ancient Romans, who called the plant Syrian sumach, for the same purpose as lemons before the latter were introduced into cultivation. From Mattioli we know that the eastern peoples used the dried fruits of sumach herb in place of salt.

They are used sliced on bread and butter, chopped or grated in salads and as an accompaniment to cheeses and salamis. They arc best eaten raw. Radishes are wholesome, for besides mustard oil they contain Vitamins B and C and many mineral substances.

It is a lengthy and unpleasant process, best done with gloved hands, for the hairs cause an itching sensation if they come in contact with the skin. Hips for making jam, marmalade and wine must be fully ripe and picked when they have become softened after the first frosts. The clog rose is widely distributed throughout Europe up to altitudes of 1,000 m (3,300 ft) and therefore there is no need to grow it in the garden. It may be found alongside hedges in pastures, on sunny banks and at the edges of woodlands. It is perennial, growing up to 3 in (10 ft) high, and fully hardy. It was named Rosa canina from the Latin word `canis' meaning dog because the root was at one time used to treat rabies.

Some species of sumach are grown for the tannin-rich leaves used in tanning and dyeing. The related stag's horn sumach (R. typhina) is often grown in Europe as a specimen tree. This is native to North America, the home of many poisonous species such as R. toxicodendron, commonly known as poison ivy. Sumach herb has many uses. Its leaves can be used as a dye. It can be used to add tastes to your cooking. You can grow sumach herb in your herb garden for decorative purpose. - 16035

Selecting Suitable Plants for Your Garden

The weather will be a major influence on the design and planting of your garden. If you live in an area where the proportion of cold, wet days is high, you should site your vegetable patch near the house, or at least make sure there is a dry path to it so that it will he easy to pick a winter cabbage.

Plants need light to achieve growth, through the process of photosynthesis. You can take advantage of the microclimate in various ways to increase the amount of sunlight available to a plant. A slope, for example, may catch more of the sun's rays than fiat ground and the water of a small pond will reflect light, aiding the growth of nearby plants. However, some plants require less sun and more shade than others and too much solar heat results in excessive water loss.

Shade-loving plants tend to be the ones with relatively large leaves, since these become hotter than small leaves when exposed to sunlight. While plants and soil absorb heat from the sun during the day, at night they give off heat into the atmosphere. On cloudy nights, heat radiated from the ground is partly reflected back again, so that temperatures do not increase too rapidly. On clear winter nights, however, nearly all the heat is lost to space and the ground temperature falls rapidly until it is lower than that of the air. The soil then takes heat from the air at ground level, resulting in freezing.

Although a panoramic view is a great asset, the site from which you enjoy it is often exposed and windswept. As well as offering shelter, planting in the foreground (right) may improve such a view by breaking it up into a series of images. A wall with a window in it (far right) performs a similar function and literally frames the view

The overall design and the use of plants can either lead the eve out or focus it within the garden. The garden illustrated above adjoins an equally attractive beyond.

The most common problem in the countryside is the direct force of the wind, whereas in town it is more often draught, or wind coming in sudden gusts which has been re-routed round buildings, that damages plants. Balcony and roof gardens may be particularly exposed to the wind. Wind breaks can be made from a variety of materials, including plants which do not themselves mind high wind speeds. Solid barriers create areas of turbulence so an open-work fence, a broken wall, a group of plants or another form of partial wind break may be the better solution. - 16035

Parsley

By Jason Ledger

A Neapolitan pizza would be incomplete without oregano. This plant is native to the temperate and subtropical regions of Eurasia, but it grows wild as far north as central Scandinavia and the northern parts of the former USSR as well as in North America.

In the first century B.C. the largest producer of olive oil was Italy, where the olive tree was introduced by the Greeks. Olives, as we know them today in the form used to flavour dishes typical of the Mediterranean region, were not known at that time.

Its delicate aroma and flavour have made parsley the most widely-used culinary herb which can be added to practically all dishes that are not sweet. The finely chopped leaves are used either fresh or dried. It can be combined well with other kitchen herbs.

Crushed parsley seeds may be used for flavouring instead of the leaves, though this is not a common practice. Parsley leaves are an important component of bouquet garni and a common ingredient of a great variety of commercial sauces.

Put a few drops on a salad of fresh green peppers or tomatoes, close your eyes, and it does not take much to imagine you are by the warm Mediterranean Sea. It is particularly good mixed with wine vinegar or lemon juice, but the addition of other herbs would only spoil the illusion.

Two types are cultivated: the one for its curly leaves, used for flavouring and as a garnish, the other for its fleshy root, commonly used as a vegetable. In the autumn the plants may be put in pots, thus ensuring a continual supply of fresh leaves, rich in Vitamin C, throughout the winter. As cooking destroys vitamins it is recommended to add the chopped leaves just before serving - 16035

Online Dating Tips For Beginners

By Jason King

So you are thinking about joining the online dating scene for the first time? When you first start communicating online for the first time it can be a bit daunting. If you're unsure of yourself or having second thoughts you're not alone. The good news is, it does get easier, and everything starts moving alone more smoothly. To help you get more enjoyment out of your online dating experience there are some tips below.

Honest is the best policy, and this should be from the beginning. Your profile is where you honesty should start as there's no point in fabricating the truth. Most lies will get discovered on the first date which will ruin any chances of starting a relationship. Being honest will mean you'll meet someone straight away who likes you for who you are.

A photo is a must for your profile, and will get you up to twenty times more emails than if you don't upload one. All online dating services allow you top upload a photo. To keep on your honesty theme you should upload a recent one that shows what you look like now.

Using an old photo that shows you slimmer or with more hair will just ruin the first date. If you don't have a recent photo then do one yourself or get a friend to take one. Profiles with pictures are more likely to be viewed. It's not so much what you look like, but that with no photo is may be assumed you are hiding something.

Never share any of your personal information online. Not everyone who used a dating service is as honest as you. You should not use your last name in your profile. Your address and any other personal information should stay personal. At some point you'll meet someone that you'll want to speak with on the phone. It is best to give a cell number as this number is not tractable to an address. Once you get to know someone you can let your guard down a bit, and reveal some information about yourself.

You should always be nice; this isn't the elementary school playground. Some people won't be so nice because of the anonymity of the internet. If you meet someone at an online dating service that isn't nice you can easily block them from ever contacting you again.

The important thing is, you must have fun. Looking for that perfect match could take some time so enjoy your experience every day. If you're enjoying yourself you will end up having as much fun looking for someone as you will finding a partner. You won't click with the first person you meet, but don't let this discourage you from continuing on your love quest.

Online dating is an excellent way to meet people you would not otherwise meet. Just because you're attempting to meet someone online don't let that stop you from meeting new people when you're out. - 16035
