A Guide for DIY Folks for drilling

By Lance Goodwin

The drill bits available in the market vary based on the price as well as their usage for the material to be drilled.

The low cost most inexpensive drill is the regular steel bit which is mostly used in drilling holes in wood. The other types of drill bit are the high speed steel and the titanium coated drill bits. Next in the line which is more expensive but tougher are the carbide tipped and the cobalt bits.

The bard pint bit or the spade bits are used for the wood drilling but they have different sizes based on the size of the hole being drilled. The most common one is the twist drill used for drilling holes in wood, metal or plastic.

For phone wire installation or the cable wire installation there are special drill bits which are used and these are known as the installer bits. These are designed so that the wire can be easily pulled through the hole.

The drill bit used for brass or copper materials is known as the step bit. For glass the glass bit is used and for the masonry work there is the masonry drill bit which is used in front of the rotary hammer or regular hammer drills.

A power drill is what you will need for your small work around the house. These power drills can help bore the drill a hole into almost any material within the home say wood or glass or even special stained glass. What you need is the perfect drill bit set for your needs.

For home use the regular drill bit set containing the steel and spiral bits is enough. These can easily drill holes ranging from eight millimeters to thirty two millimeters. These cannot be used for drilling in concrete or metal.

As a matter of precaution always try to ask the manufactures or read the material which comes with the drill for the drill bits best suited for the drill you have bought. - 16035
