Bar Height Tables Are Unique From Other Tables

By Rod Ernest

Bar height tables aren't your average table. The differences are visually obvious: they're very high and much smaller than the dining tables you are likely accustomed to. Because the table tops are so small, meals using dinner plates and salad bowls are out; they won't be able to fit if you have more than one person sitting at the table!

This smaller table top size makes them more conducive to an informal setting where good conversation among a small group of people is the main course on the menu. This is why bar height tables are mainly used in bars. Bars are social places where people visit, have a light snack and some drinks; they're not where people eat main courses.

Because bar height tables sit up high, they don't lend themselves to main course dining. People want to take the time to relax and sit awhile when they're having a large meal. Therefore, bar height tables are perfect for snacks or light and quick meals where people can gather for some conversation while eating or drinking.

Bar height tables are great for an active evening. People who have planned a night on the town generally go to a place with such bistro tables. Sometimes they wait for their reservations at these bar dining sets. Or they have a drink with their date or friends before or after a hearty meal, movie, or play. Some people enjoy being gadabouts - going to various bistro tables, visiting with friends and acquaintances.

This kind of on the fly socializing is a match made in heaven for bar height tables. Since there's no need for a chair at these tables, people can easily mingle amongst these bar-height table tops, socializing with friends and acquaintances. Some people may have "parked" themselves on chairs at these tables, letting these gadabouts flit from social group to social group, and adding to their lively conversations.

If you're thinking of putting a bar in your house, bar height tables will announce to your guests the type of room it is. They're not only functional and aid in creating a relaxed atmosphere, they're also stylish. Such bar tables seem to be a universal piece of furniture for an informal evening of active socializing.

Many people who have a bar in their home not only have bar height tables, but they usually have an entertainment area where people can sit comfortably on other furniture that is placed around a large television screen. This is appealing to those who want to just talk and to those who want to come together to watch a sporting or other event on TV.

Conversely, bar height tables are not something you'd want to place into your family dining room. True, the children will probably enjoy the novelty of sitting at a high table on higher chairs, but soon they'll tire of it because the table is too high for them. Plus, you'll soon tire of having them on your lap.

Bar height tables can blend in with just about any decor, so you have plenty of options to choose from. Height tables feature many different types of table tops that include the various solid wood finishes you're familiar with. These sit on metal frames, which are designed to be durable and last a long time. You'll appreciate the longevity of their materials as you entertain guests year after year.

Other bistro tables have tops made of glass. This is great if the table stand is made out of wrought iron. So many of these metal designs have beautiful scroll work, which can be a topic of conversation. Such metal artistry adds a fashionable and classy aspect to your bar furniture.

Whatever bar height tables you choose to belly up to the bar with, you'll know that the table you're sitting or standing at is made especially for the type of socializing you have in mind. Relax, enjoy, and make new friends while in this party atmosphere. - 16035
