Which engagement stone are you going to choose for your Beloved?

By Erwin Rostuzing

So, rumor has it your are about to get engaged. Congratulations on finding that special girl you have chosen to spend the rest of your life with. When do you plan on popping the big question? After you have chosen the right engagement ring -wow!

Choosing an engagement ring involves making a lot of informed decisions. The actual size and color of the stone are the most important issues to be considered and you should be aware of your potential fiance's taste in precious stones. What metal should the stone be set in? Gold! Which gold - traditional yellow, rose or white gold?
One choice that is becoming increasingly popular is an "emerald" engagement ring.

Emerald - The "Green" Stone - associated by Spiritualists as "The Healing Stone."

Emeralds are precious gem stones originating from South America and are believed to have special spiritual powers. There are many beliefs surrounding the wearing of an emerald, the most common being, it is believed the stone has special inherent characteristics and abilities where healing is concerned.
No matter what the traditionalists say, an emerald engagement ring is a fresh alternative to the traditional colorless diamond. If your bride-to-be thinks herself as a free spirit who marches to the beat of a different drum, the choice of an emerald, as the headstone of her engagement ring is sure to delight and please her.

If you are excited about the thought of an engagement ring with a "green" stone inset in the metal setting you pick - you have definitely eliminated one of the metals from your choices - rose gold.

If you bear in mind that, the most common of emeralds lend themselves to a yellowish hue of green in color, this could be accentuated with your choice of placing it upon a yellow gold ring - it would look absolutely perfect. The choice of white gold or platinum as the setting for an emerald is going to detract from the beauty of an emerald. Depending on your budget, you could include some diamantes (miniature diamonds) along with the emerald and create an amazing adornment of precious gems with your emerald being the centre piece or hallmark of the engagement ring.

If you are lucky enough not to be restricted by a budget, there are other emeralds available for the discerning buyer - blue-green emeralds. These stones are exquisite and they have a price tag to match, because they are considered to be quite rare.

Emeralds are a softer stone when compared to diamonds, so there exists the chance that the stone could have been damaged during the faceting process. Consult with your jeweler and have him advise you of any existing flaws in any stone before you buy it, and, specifically ask if the stone is natural or synthetic (man-made). This goes for diamonds too, because there are generic diamonds called zirconium - they look like real diamonds but, they are man-made synthetics. And, you guessed it - you can get man-made emeralds. The price of a gem is indicative of what quality it is - so bear that in mind when you go shopping for this most special of rings, a ring to last a lifetime.

If your fiance was born during the month of May, she will be especially delighted with an emerald engagement ring because it is the birthstone associated with those born in May. Does your fiance come from Irish lineage? If your fiance has green eyes, an emerald would look absolutely stunning adorning her left hand, as a token of her commitment to you.

Think about what color clothes she prefers to wear, or what color jewelry accessories she prefers. If your specially chosen girl likes the color green then you have really narrowed down your choices, other than the traditional clear colored diamond. Maybe your fiance is a traditionalist and would prefer a diamond engagement ring.

You have a lot of thinking and a lot of window shopping to do, but if you know your fiances preferences, you are a mile ahead of a lot of others. May the luck of the Irish be with you when you choose the gem that you want your beloved to wear and signifies that she has chosen you to spend the rest of her life with. - 16035
